I am a lyric soprano with over 10 years of performance experience. I enjoy singing bel canto and contempory repertoire. I have had the privilege of working with opera companies such as English National Opera, Welsh National Opera, Opera Holland Park and Birmingham Opera Company. Currently, I am a Create and Sing artist for The Royal Ballet and Opera. As a versatile performer, I frequently collaborate as a soloist for unique events and bespoke, tailored projects. Grace Nyandoro is “a captivating and exuberant soprano” whose voice is distinguished by its warmth and depth of colour. Born in London, Grace has both Ugandan and Zimbabwean heritage.
Grace studied at the University of Edinburgh, reading Music and choosing to specialise in harmony, composition, and performance. Immersed in the university’s vibrant musical community, she became a core member of the Edinburgh University Chamber Choir, performing regularly both as chorister and featured soloist and was also a member of Edinburgh University Jazz Orchestra.
Following her degree, Grace continued her musical development at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, training in vocal performance. During this time, she was a finalist in many competitions including Jackdaws Great Elm Vocal Awards held at Wigmore Hall. Her studies were generously supported by the University of Edinburgh Bucher‑Fraser Scholarship, the Oxford Lieder Society Bursary, and the Laurence Atwell Trust Bursary.
After graduating from Trinity Laban Grace gained experiencing working with opera companies including Grange Park Opera and Birmingham Opera Company most notably singing Aksinya in Shostakovich’s Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk — a Graham Vick-directed production that went on to win the Royal Philharmonic Society Award. Other operatic roles include: Girlfriend 1/Nurse (cover) in Jeanine Tesori’s Blue (English National Opera) directed by Tinuke Craig, Bridget/Emelda Migrations (Welsh National Opera) Will Todd’s large-scale contemporary opera staged by David Pountney. Musetta La Bohème’ (Kings Head Theatre) directed by Mark Ravenhill, Rooster & Jay The Cunning Little Vixen (Opera Holland Park) directed by Stephen Barlow, and the title role of Treemonisha (Spectra Ensemble) at the Grimeborn Festival directed by Cecilia Stinton.
A keen advocate for new opera, Grace frequently collaborates on premieres and original works, reflecting her commitment to storytelling that resonates with present-day audiences. She recently created the role of Anne in Lisa Logan’s Brontë (Keynote Opera), a piece that explores the radical impact of the Brontë sisters and Grace in Sayan Kent’s Herday an opera commissioned for Coventry’s City of Culture Festival directed by Lucy Bradley.
Alongside her performance career, Grace is actively involved with music education and community outreach. She is currently a Create & Sing Artist for the Royal Ballet and Opera, a role that involves working directly with schools to introduce opera to children through creative workshops and participatory performances. She has also been involved in children’s opera projects, recent productions include: The King’s Pants by Georgia Barnes (Opera Prelude) and Mr Punch at the Opera (The Opera Makers). She has contributed to educational initiatives with English National Opera, Birmingham Opera Company, Pegasus Opera, and Streetwise Opera, organisations known for their award-winning outreach work.
